2019 So Far: New Initiatives, New Members and Growing Momentum

We are now well into 2019, and this year has seen some of the most exciting developments within the i3forum. We have been increasing momentum through expanding our number of members, collaboratively creating innovative solutions within our work groups, and continuing to provide global Carriers with rich industry insights. Here’s a recap of our latest news and deliverables to show you some of the work we have been involved in during the first half of 2019.

Capacity Middle East took place in March, which brought the announcement that Saudi Telecom Company (STC), the largest telecommunications company in the Middle East, became the first Middle Eastern Carrier to join the i3forum as a full member. You can read the news here.

March also saw our Chairman, Philippe Millet, participate in an interview with Broadband World News. Philippe spoke about the addition of STC to i3forum, and the benefits of Carriers collaborating to create a platform that is more effective and efficient at preventing fraud. Shortly after this, we welcomed our 24th i3forum member, NetNumber, as an observer member. NetNumber is a leading provider of platforms for global telecom and enterprise networks, and has been working within i3forum work groups to help generate solutions for some of the industry’s biggest challenges. To learn more, read our blog post.

Philippe was involved with another interview in June, which was conducted by Telecom Reseller. One of the main topics discussed was about how the i3forum is bringing the industry together to collaborate and accelerate Carrier transformation. You can listen to the full podcast here.

In June, we hosted our 11th annual conference at International Telecoms Week (ITW) in Atlanta. The conference had a new format with anti-fraud discussions running in parallel with our updates on our workgroups and new initiatives. There were a lot of lively debates and discussions in both rooms. Presentations from throughout the conference can be found here.

ITW also brought the exciting news of i3forum Insights – our comprehensive and operationally relevant database for international Voice services. i3forum Insights enables Carriers to work collaboratively to improve data-driven insights and intelligence, with 100% anonymity and confidentiality. You can read more in our article on Total Telecom here, or learn more and join i3forum Insights here.

This summer also saw the release of some of our work groups’ most recent deliverables, which are summarised below:

  • Calling Line Identification (CLI) Management (Release 1.0) June 2019

CLI affects wholesale call termination rate among operators, and it is therefore important to correctly identify valid CLI so that proper rating and billing is applied between interconnected operators. This document provides technical guidelines on CLI management so that CLI information is consistent in the End-to-End call path.

You can read more here.

  • IMS-Based Services: Service Interoperability (Release 1.2) June 2019

This document provides a unique analysis of the impact on Carriers’ / IPX Providers’ platforms for the provisioning of IMS based services. Focus is on the selection of the proper standard(s) to be adopted within a comprehensive IPX architectural and commercial model, alongside the discussion of the various alternatives and their related results, with respect to the End-to-End service.

The full report can be found here.

  • Voice Over IP (and IPX) Traffic Survey Results July 2019

A traffic survey was conducted to identify the levels and trends of Voice over IP and Voice over IPX traffic within the International Long Distance Market. Ten Tier I global Carriers contributed to the report, capturing a significant portion of the international Voice market and therefore providing valuable insights for the industry.
