Visibility into MSRN ranges is a critical element for service providers managing international voice traffic and is a key focus area of the i3Forum’s Numbering Plan Community.
The MSRN, or Mobile Station Roaming Number, refers to a temporary mobile number assigned to a foreign mobile number that is roaming in the visited network, by the visited network’s mobile operator. MSRN ranges ensure that traffic can be routed correctly to end users while roaming abroad.
Access to MSRN range information allows international voice service providers to identify roaming traffic and take steps to ensure quality of service, feature support, and network availability is prioritized accordingly.
Fraud prevention efforts are also enhanced with greater MSRN range visibility. MSRN ranges are temporary numbers used for call routing purposes, therefore, fraudulent traffic using these ranges as the A number is more easily identified and prevented.
