i3forum APAC Conference: Asian Carriers Look to Shape the Future

We held our first ever Asia Pacific (APAC) conference in conjunction with Capacity Asia on December 13th at the Conrad Hotel in Hong Kong. It was a tremendous success with leading executives from across the Carrier ecosystem joining us. We debated and discussed transformation in Carrier business and how collaboration will drive our success as an industry.

APAC will be a driver for new Cloud growth over the next 2-3 years and is emerging as a leader in Digital Transformation. The pace of change across the region is accelerating and local, regional and global Carriers have big role to play in the enabling enterprise transformation.

Our APAC session covered:

  • Session Introduction: The new i3forum – collaborate to shape the future – Philippe Millet, Chair, i3forum and Head, Technical Strategy, Orange Labs Networks
  • Keynote: Collaboration and Industry Transformation – Marc Halbfinger, CEO PCCW Global
  • Unified Communications & the Role of International Carriers – Moderator: Carlos Dasilva, VP Products and Business Operations, PCCW Global
  • Next Steps for IPX : VoLTE and RCS and Beyond? – Moderator: Christian Michaud, SVP, Usage Based Services, Voice & Mobility, Tata Communications

There were great discussions on Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) and how it has significant business potential. Carriers need to work together to enable interoperability and interconnections so they can leverage each other’s footprint and capabilities. With the right UCC strategy, the Carrier ecosystem can serve new demand that is being shaped by Social Media, apps, IoT, Virtual Reality, Cloud and digital millennials.

Nadya Melic from Telstra stated that “It’s how you consume data and information that is really defining Unified Communications.”

Our IPX panel sparked interesting discussions on the status and future of IPX. There was a call for Carriers to be more creative and monetize the assets they have built with their IPX capabilities and truly embrace the technology.

Throughout the entire conference, it was clear that collaboration is needed to collectively change the industry. As an industry, we can make our visions for the future a reality by working together to enable widespread transformation and have a positive impact for Asian Carriers as well as the entire ecosystem. No matter where you are in the world, action needs to be taken by working together to enable transformation.

We’d like to thank all our members, friends and non-members who joined us on our panels to debate and discuss the topics that are facing our industry, along with delegates who attended the event and Capacity Asia.

i3forum members would like to extend their thanks to keynote speaker Marc Halbfinger, CEO at PCCW Global who discussed collaboration and industry transformation, along with our other panelists. On the Unified Communications panel, Carlos Dasilva from PCCW Global, Kat Luna-Abelarde from PLDT Global, Peter Quinlan from Tata Communications and Nadya Melic from Telstra.

We’d also like to thank our IPX panelists, Christian Michaud from Tata Communications, Sutton Cheung from CITIC, John Sullivan from Telstra, Cedric Mauvielle from PCCW Global and Ravidran Mahalingam from Hutchinson Global Communications.

We’re proud to be supporting the transformation and growth of the telecoms market, and seeing our members and non-members benefit from an event to discuss and debate the industry.
